DAY 43

I did something drastic today.  I painted out most of the white clouds and started repositioning them.  I think I'm going to like this much better.  Again, I'm learning so much about clouds.  I study them whenever I see them, but haven't been able to get in on a beautiful sunrise here.  That would help tremendously.

I found out today that I would be staying another week, so don't feel quite as much pressure to finish now.

DAY 42

Another great day today.  I know why I enjoy painting skies so much.  It takes me back to lying in the grass on the farm and trying to find pictures in the clouds.  How nice and peaceful that was!  Anyway, I really did enjoy working on the sky today.  Most of my time was spent on the center panel.  Nearly finished with that - just need to work on the larger clouds.

By the way, the white at the bottom is the sheet on the floor.  I forgot to straighten it out before I took the picture.  Also, don't bother to enlarge this one.  It's blurry again.  And I don't think I changed the settings from yesterday.  Maybe my hand was shaky - I don't know.

DAY 41

What a fun day.  It was great to get back to the sky and start to see it develop.  Today you can really see a difference from the previous day.  This means the end is near.  It will feel so good to accomplish something so large.  Tomorrow more sky.

DAY 40

Wow!  Day 40 already.  How time does fly when you're having fun!  And today was fun.  I worked on the grassy area on all three canvases and am really happy with the results.  Tomorrow afternoon I start working on the sky again.  Can't wait!  I have lots of ideas for what I want to do!

I don't know what I have set wrong on my camera, but will check it out again tomorrow to find out why the blurring!

DAY 39

Today was a beautiful day, but spent it inside painting.  I worked on defining the trees and developing the colors all across the three panels.  Tomorrow I should finish the lower half so will be able to lower the paintings to the floor and start working on the sky on Wednesday.  I'm very happy with what I did today.  I do have to apologize for the photo.  I'll have to work on my settings tomorrow to get rid of the blur!

DAY 38

I'm back.  What a great weekend.  Bluebonnets and other Texas wild flowers were in full bloom and it was a beautiful day Saturday.  This afternoon we went to Houston to a huge art festival and saw wonderful new and different art.  Now tomorrow I have to get back to work.  This picture is from Friday, which was a good painting day.  Another day and a half and I'll be back working on the sky.  Really looking forward to it.

DAY 37

Life is good down here in Texas.  The sun was shining all day long, a light breeze, low humidity, and in the 80's.
On top of that, I had a great day painting and I'm sitting here blogging with a cup of chai latte.  Who could ask for more.  I think I'm finally catching on to painting trees.  The only problem is I'll have to go back and work on the trees on the center and right panel so they look like they were painted by the same person as the trees on the left.  So it goes!

DAY 36

Wow, I can't believe this is day 36 already.  I have finally begun the tree line on the left panel.  It's amazing how much I've learned since I started the tree line on the center panel.  Having a good time!

DAY 35

Heavy rain again last night and this morning.  I didn't get in to paint until this afternoon, but worked late to make up for it.  I worked on the middle ground and the top of the tree line on the left panel.  I think it went quite well.  Tomorrow - trees again.

DAY 34

Today was one of those days when you just don't want to quit.  One brush stroke leads to another and another.  That's when painting is really fun.  A person probably can't see a lot of difference from the last day, but I painted on the left side of the center panel in the middle ground; and on the left panel along the skyline and down almost to the tree line.

DAY 33

Today was fun.  I actually spent time painting something other than trees.  Next week I'll be getting back to them on the left panel.  I worked on the middle foreground on the right panel.

DAY 32

I am so glad I was able to paint today.  Yesterday, when I arrived back at the house, I did something really stupid.  I know there is a rise in the concrete going into the garage, but completely missed it and fell flat onto the concrete.  I didn't break anything, but bruised (I think that's all) my upper rib cage near the sternum.  It is really sore and my arms are very stiff, but was able to drive in and paint.  I'm sure it will take a while to heal, so will just put up with it.  Thankfully, I was able to sleep fairly well.  Guess I'm more aware now and it shouldn't happen again!

I think I am finished with the trees on the right panel and tomorrow will paint on the grassy area and and above the trees.  Hopefully, I can finish the bottom of that canvas and be able to start  Monday on the left.  Nearing the end!

DAY 31

Today seemed confusing.  Sometimes everything went wrong, and then again things would go right again.  Worked on the right panel, tree line.  I will be so happy when the trees are finished.  Really looking forward to getting back to the sky.  I can't reach it, so might as well finish the bottom so I can put them on the floor so I can reach it.

DAY 30

Really good day today.  I worked mostly on the center panel, in the grove of trees.  I finally figured out what to do with it and am liking what I have done.  I also did some redrawing on the left panel, so now feel like I really want to tackle it.  It was a long productive day.  And, cousin Bev and husband are back, so had visitors and someone to do lunch with.

DAY 29

Today was a long day but very productive.  I am still hoping to be able to finish the bottom half of the right panel this week.  The challenge is to be able to gradually go from the more detailed center panel to out of focus on the extreme right.  I'm hoping I can make that work.  I've learned so much on this project!  Don't know what it will be like working on smaller canvases, but I'm looking forward to doing that again.

Monday, March 12, 2012

DAY 28

It finally warmed up today - and no rain!  It was a good day for painting, too.  I think I finally have the bottom half of the center panel about where I want it, and I was able to start working on the right panel again.  Looking forward to tomorrow!

DAY 27

I'm really getting tired of this weather.  I think it was warmer in SD today than it was down here.  It was 58 at 5:00 and the sun never did come out.  At least it wasn't raining so hard, and I was able to get in to paint.  I worked on the bottom of the center panel today and I think I'm getting it.  When it's dry, I'll have to go in and lighten up parts of it that I'm not really happy with.  Next week, I'm hoping to finish the bottom third of the right panel and hopefully get a little time in on the left panel.

DAY 26

I was able to put in a good long day today.  No distractions, and things went well.  When things are clicking that way, it's hard sometimes to leave it.  I'm not sure if I'll be painting tomorrow or Saturday.  There are storms forecast, and I really don't look forward to making the drive when it's pouring rain.  Time will tell, I guess.

DAY 25

Well, I didn't push myself as hard as yesterday, but I feel I did accomplish quite a bit.  For those of you who think the painting looks finished, when I am finished with the bottom third of the painting, I will drop the whole thing down to the floor so I can reach the top two thirds.  The sky actually needs a lot of work yet.  The oranges will spread farther over to the left, the sky will be lighter, and the clouds really need a lot of work.  For those of you who think they look like ice bergs, you are right.  At this point they are just blocked in.  There will be much more definition, more blending into the sky, and more color.  Keep watching.  There are lots of changes yet to come.

Tuesday, March 6, 2012

Today was a good day and I'm thinking I just might get the painting finished.  Center panel again today.  I'm thinking that is the most important panel, and there will be more detail to be painted.  As I go out from the center, there will be more blurring, just as when you look at something - you don't bring the side view in any kind of detail.  Hopefully, I can make it work.

Monday, March 5, 2012

DAY 23

Wow, twentythree days of painting.  That means I should be half done if I only take one day off a week.  Guess I'd best get going a little earlier in the a.m.!

I spent the day blocking in the color on the left panel.  When that is dry I'll be able to begin painting in more colors.  Much more fun to do that!  Anyway, I was happy with how things went today.

Saturday, March 3, 2012

DAY 22

Today was a very long day and I'm ready for a day off.  On Monday I'll start working on the left panel again.  Time for a change -  I'm tired of looking at all that raw umber and think I'll feel better about things once that is covered up.  The center panel is the most important as that is where I want the eye to go.  Then I need to make sure the eye is led around the rest of the painting.  Really looking forward to getting to that point.

DAY 21

Today was a good day.  I've begun showing reflections of the morning sun on the trees in the foreground.  I think I finally have it figured out but it is a long process.  Once I get this down on the center panel, the other two panels won't take as long.  Thanks, Raymond, for the opportunity to learn so much.  It's all a process after all.

DAY 20

What can I say about today?  Painting went well.  I'm beginning some of the large blocks of color on the bottom of the right panel.  I'm also experimenting on different areas trying to show the sky reflections on trees and grass, etc.  I guess I should get up early some morning and go watch the sun come up.  Only problem is, it's usually foggy in the morning and finding an area where I could really see it would be difficult.

When I got home and picked up the mail, I found a notice from the Montgomery County photo enforcement program telling me I had run a red light.  On the video it showed that the light was green when I started around the corner, but it turned red before I got through.  Didn't realize there is no yellow on the left turn signal.  Expensive day today.  Guess I'll be more careful in the future.  Anyway, here's what has happened today in the studio:
